Community

Our commitment to community engagement and science communication is central to our research.

We work in Klemtu, British Columbia, a small coastal community of ~350. Community members are crucial to the Spirit Bear Research Foundation at every stage of the research process; from the conception of research questions to sharing data and results. We hire local field technicians, including youth interns and work to engage with the wider community by attending school camping trips, delivering research presentations at the Spirit Bear Lodge, and hosting community feasts. We also partner with the SEAS program and engage the Klemtu interns in summer sampling of our bear hair snag stations and remote cameras.
